Driver paralyzed in crash while following temporary traffic pattern | Toledo, Ohio Car Accident Lawyer

The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices would like to inform you about a recent car accident. The city was installing new pipe beneath the street in Palmdale, California. The city was working with Palmdale Water District and two contractors. The contractors developed a traffic plan, closed traffic lanes, and placed cones to guide drivers during the project.

After stopping his truck at a stop sign at an intersection in the construction zone, Pedro Panameno turned left onto a street that had some lanes closed for the project. Panameno's truck collided with the SUV of Michael Smith. Smith suffered injuries resulting in partial quadriplegia. His medical expenses totaled about $1.03 million, and he now requires 24-hour care.

Smith, his wife, their daughter, and their grandchild sued the contractors and the city, alleging that the contractor's traffic plan - which the city signed off on - obscured Panameno's vision. Suit also alleged that the contractors had negligently placed signs and cones that were in the wrong location and not large enough. The water district was also named under an indemnification theory. The plaintiffs did not claim lost income.

The parties settled during jury selection for $13.5 million.
