Data collected from the Ohio State Highway Patrol shows that the number of people killed on the road in Ohio has slightly decreased from last year.
The patrol reported that there are 970 confirmed fatalities for 2011 and 49 unconfirmed deaths. These unconfirmed deaths include those that are still under investigation and those that don't have a report yet. This makes it a possible 1019 fatalities for the year, which is down from 2010 in which there were 1,080. It is the lowest total since they began keeping record in 1936.
The patrol sees a link between the decreased amount of fatalities and the step-up in enforcement targeting impaired drivers.
