70-year-old Douglas Dapice, was driving a 2000 Volvo C70 station wagon north on Interstate 95 when he fell asleep at the wheel. The Volvo swerved across the rumble strips which woke Dapice.
He ended up overcorrecting, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, slide into the median and hit a rock before smashing into a tree.
The vehicle stopped at bottom of a ditch in the center median.
Dapice was taken to a Medical Center where he died from his injuries. 69-year-old Lynne Dapice was also taken to a Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
According to the Maine State Police both victims were wearing seatbelts.
