The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices are saddened to report that icy roads are being blamed for a two vehicle accident that killed an infant and seriously injured two other people.
A driver lost control of her minivan and slid across the center line. It then collided with an SUV travelling in the other direction. A four-month-old boy was killed, and his four-year-old sister and mother were injured. The driver of the SUV was treated and released from the hospital. Investigators say both children were in car seats, and both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The crash that occurred Wednesday, January 19 was one of 20 state troopers dealt with around Ohio that morning. Most of them were caused by icy conditions.
No matter how long you've been driving or lived in places where snow and ice are a regular winter occurrence, you can still be involved in an accident due to road conditions. It isn't only the ice you need to worry about. It is gravel and sand placed on the roads to deter sliding. Ironically, it is sometimes these very things that cause vehicles to slide instead of stop.
It can be easy to believe that since you're a winter driving veteran you can manage each and every situation. You may have a large SUV or four-wheel drive, but it is those who are not cautious or driven by the illusion of safety that wind up in accidents.
