A Port Clinton man died as a result of a Monday morning crash. Gerald Depiero, 69, of Port Clinton, was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. Monday evening at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, according to the Sandusky Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The three-vehicle crash closed westbound Ohio 2 down to one lane for several hours Monday morning and completely for a brief period when a helicopter landed to pick up the patient, the patrol reported.
Jason R. Nahm, 32, Lorain, was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang east on Ohio 2 in the left lane next to Depiero, of 22229 East Sand Road. Depiero was also driving a 2006 Ford Mustang, and when he drifted left the Mustangs collided, the report shows.
Nahm's vehicle came to rest in the median, the report said, and Depiero's continued across the median and into oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes. There, Depiero's vehicle struck a 2003 Ford F-350 pickup driven by Jill A. Conner, 33, Castalia, according to the report. The pickup overturned and came to rest on its side, the report said.
Nahm was not injured and Conner received only minor injuries, according to the report. Depiero was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, the report said.
