Teen sent to detention center for causing fatal crash | Toledo, Ohio Car Accident Lawyer

A Clyde girl was sentenced Tuesday to 90 days in the Sandusky County Juvenile Detention Center for vehicular homicide.

Lana Adams, now 17, was driving an Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight on Ohio 101 on Aug. 17 when at about 10:15 p.m., just south of Clyde, her vehicle drifted over the center line. It ran headlong into an oncoming 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster driven by Nicholas Darr, 24.

Darr, less than a mile from his house, was thrown off the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lana was 16 years old at the time. Like most teens, she had a cell phone with her while she was driving. According to Sandusky County assistant prosecutor, Norm Solze, said Lana's phone rang immediately before the crash. When she reached over to turn it off, she caused the vehicle to drift into oncoming traffic, Solze said.

Distracted driving isn't just a problem with young drivers -- investigators see it happen to people of all ages."With anybody, they are either reaching to change radio channels, pick up something that fell or they are distracted by children in the car," Solze said.
