17-year-old Margaret Radford was driving a convertible 1999 BMW 328i east on the interstate when she lost control of the BMW on the curve of the wet roadway and started to spin. The BMW spun off the road and hit a tree on the driver’s side.
Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Radford and her passenger 16-year-old Celia Sprouser from the wreck.
Radford was pronounced dead at the scene. Sprouser sustained serious head injuries and was transported to Greenwich Hospital. She is critical but stable condition. State Police are investigating the fatal accident; speed is suspected to be the main factor in the accident.
