Tips to avoid being involved in a deer related automobile accident. Part 2 | Findlay, OH automobile accident lawyers.

With the amount of deer on a steady up rise and the average cost of deer-car accidents increasing over the years, there is no better time to learn a couple tips to help you stay safe on your travels this upcoming holiday season.  Here are a couple more put together by FOXNews.com to help you, as a driver, keep yourself and your family safe.

1.) Keep your speed down at night.
Although more and more interstate highways are constructing fences to reduce the access animals have to the actual roadway, they can occur on any type of road and more often do.

2.) If there is one, there are probably others.
Deer usually travel in herds and if you see one jump across the road you should slow down or stop to check and make sure it is safe to pass.

3.) Know which seasons and times are worse than others.
Each day, an hour before sunset till about midnight is the most active time for deer and the most popular for collisions. They are more active in the fall and spring but in the summer they are often out in the daytime. Be extra careful right before storms, animals tend to be very wild and unpredictable.

4.) Do not try to swerve around an animal.
You could lose control of your vehicle and hit a tree or an oncoming vehicle, both being potentially worse then hitting a deer.  Instead maintain your current lane, sound your horn, and brake in a controlled manner.

If you follow some of these simple tips you will greatly increase your chances of avoiding a collision with an animal and getting to your destination unscathed.
