Two semi trucks collide causing fire | Toledo, Ohio truck accident attorney

A semi-truck was burned to the bone Wednesday afternoon after smashing full speed into a stopped semi-truck on the Ohio Turnpike.

Traffic was backed up for more than 12 miles, and six hours after the crash only one lane was open to eastbound motorists. Thankfully drivers of both semi trucks escaped without serious injuries.

Richard Kiolbasa, was driving his semi-truck to Hatfield, Pa., to deliver a load of dairy products when he broke down. Kiolbasa had pulled the rig onto the right shoulder of the turnpike and waited inside the cab. He was sitting in the driver's seat when Volodymyr Garylyshyn was headed east in his semi-truck, driving in the turnpikes center lane. Garylshyn's tire blew out causing his rig to veer into the right shoulder and punch headlong into the back of Kiolbasa's trailer.

Garylyshy's semi truck was hauling a very heavy load of copper rings to Scranton Pa.

The impacts between the semi-trucks peeled open the fuel tank on Gavrylyshyn's semi, so he quickly jumped out of the cab, and distanced himself from the scene. Almost immediately his rig erupted in flames.

Troopers investigating tire marks at the scene later determined the tires on Gavrylyshyn's semi-truck did not sustain any blowouts before the collision. It appears Gavrylyshyn might not have been paying attention and swerved into the back of the stopped trailer.
