Two Injured in Marion Township Crash

Two motorists were injured Saturday afternoon near Vanlue, Ohio after colliding on Hancock County Road 180.

Christina Arnold, 17, was driving on the icy roadway when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a car driven by Joshua Fellrath, 23. Fellrath’s car caught fire a little after and he had to be pulled from the vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay with minor injuries.

Teenage Girl Killed In Car Accident

17-year-old Margaret Radford was driving a convertible 1999 BMW 328i east on the interstate when she lost control of the BMW on the curve of the wet roadway and started to spin. The BMW spun off the road and hit a tree on the driver’s side.
Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Radford and her passenger 16-year-old Celia Sprouser from the wreck.
Radford was pronounced dead at the scene. Sprouser sustained serious head injuries and was transported to Greenwich Hospital. She is critical but stable condition.
State Police are investigating the fatal accident; speed is suspected to be the main factor in the accident.

Downtown Toledo Crash; 2 Injured

Early Saturday in downtown Toledo two drivers were injured in an accident. August D. Bell, 25, of Toledo was driving westbound on Monroe Street when he collided with a vehicle driven by Christopher T. Matthews, 33, of Toledo who was driving north on Erie Street.
Mr. Bell was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and is in serious condition after his vehicle hit a pole and he was partially ejected from the vehicle. Mr. Matthews was also taken to the hospital with injuries. Police still do not know who was at fault for the accident.

2 Injured After Crash in Richfield

Sunday morning around 9:55 a.m. a car driven by Shane Oneail, collided with a sport utility vehicle at Kilburn Road and Brint Road in Richfield Township, Lucas County. The driver of the other vehicle was James Glaze, Toledo.

Eric Berg, was the passenger in Oneail’s car and was flown by air ambulance to Toledo Hospital and is in fair condition. Shane Oneail was also taken to Toledo Hospital to be treated. James Glaze and his passenger Ashley Breakfield, of Berkey, did not want treated.

Oneail was cited for failure to yield thinking that the intersection was a four-way stop.

The driver of a tractor-trailer was injured when his vehicle overturned

42-year-old David W. Jeffries was driving a tractor-trailer south on the Interstate when he swerved to avoid crashing into another vehicle.
Jefferies ran off the road into the center median. He then overcorrected and lost control of the truck. The tractor-trailer jackknifed and flipped over, blocking all southbound lanes of Interstate
Jefferies sustained minor injuries and had to extricate from the truck.
State police have charged Jefferies with Reckless Driving.

22-Year-Old Kill on the Turnpike

22-year-old Akeem Coon was killed when his vehicle flipped over on the Turnpike.
Coon was traveling south on the Turnpike when he attempted to change from the right lane to the left lane and lost control of his Pontiac G6.
The vehicle swerved across the southbound lanes and hit the right metal guardrail causing the vehicle to flip over.
Coon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The State Police are investigating the fatal crash.

45-year-old Man Dies on Interstate

45 year-old Jeffrey Corkins was driving a 2012 Dodge Durango north on the Interstate when the vehicle drifted off the left side of the roadway and slammed head-on into a tree in the center median.
The Cause of the drift is unknown at this time.
Corkins was transported to Kent Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities closed the left and center lane of the Interstate for a short time so police could investigate and clear the wreckage.
The State Police are still investigating the fatal crash.

54-year-Old injured in accident

54-year-old Steven C. Murray was traveling south on the Interstate when Trooper K. Terry saw his vehicle run off the right shoulder of the road and hit the concrete barrier several time.
Murray continued south on the shoulder. Terry turned on his emergency lights and tried to pull him over. Murray ignored Terry and the pursuit began.
The chase lasted for about for two miles when in an attempt to escape police, Murray entered the southbound commercial vehicle weigh station, where the vehicle ran into a ditch and caught fire.
When police approached the Murray’s vehicle to get him out of the wreckage, he pulled out a handgun and it at the police. Murray followed the police’s demands for him to drop his weapon and he surrendered.
Murray sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sentara Potomac Hospital. He now faces charges including, attempted capitol murder of a police officer, driving under the influence of drugs (DUID), hit and run, reckless driving, attempting to elude a police officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Woman Was Pinned When Her SUV Rolled Over

38-year-old Tracy St. John was driving her 2004 GMC Envoy south on the Interstate. She was in the right lane when she attempted to change lanes. The steering failed causing her to lose control of the vehicle and hit the left guardrail. The Envoy rolled over onto the top, blocking both lanes.
When rescue workers freed St. John from the vehicle and she was transported to a Medical Center in serious condition.
The failure of the sway bar appears to be a major contributor to the accident.

45-year-old woman and Dog killed in Car Accident

42-year-old Brian Jubb was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup south on the Interstate with his wife, 45-year-old Donna Jubb and their dog when the vehicle went off the roadway and into the grass median.
The Silverado struck a tree and rolled down a steep embankment coming to a rest in a marshy area. Donna was thrown from the vehicle during the collision and was transported to Christiana Hospital.
She later died from her injuries. Brian Jubb was injured and also taken to Christiana Hospital. The dog died at the scene.
State Police are still investigating the accident.

School Bus Hits Car in Toledo

Around 1 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Collingwood in Toledo, a school bus from Danbury Local Schools was taking students back after a field trip to the Toledo Museum of Art. The school bus according to police ran a red light and hit a car turning onto Collingwood. According to Daniel Parent, Superintendent of Danbury School District, there were no students injured. The two victims from the car were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police cited the bus driver for the accident.

Man killed and his wife injured in a crash

70-year-old Douglas Dapice, was driving a 2000 Volvo C70 station wagon north on Interstate 95 when he fell asleep at the wheel. The Volvo swerved across the rumble strips which woke Dapice.
He ended up overcorrecting, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, slide into the median and hit a rock before smashing into a tree.
The vehicle stopped at bottom of a ditch in the center median.
Dapice was taken to a Medical Center where he died from his injuries. 69-year-old Lynne Dapice was also taken to a Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
According to the Maine State Police both victims were wearing seatbelts.

Driver Texted 11 Times Before Deadly Crash in Missouri | Ohio Car Accident Attorney

The incident killed both the driver of the pickup truck and a 15-year-old student that was on one of the busses. 38 others were injured in the accident.

Jury Awards Survivor of Bus Crash $7.2 Million | Swanton Personal Injury Lawyer

A Colorado woman was injured in a rollover crash involving a Greyhound bus in rural Texas in December 2007 was awarded $7.2 million. Ashley Reedy stated that the Greyhound driver was using his cell phone while driving in icy conditions on an interstate highway in Wheeler County, Texas. The bus driver lost control of the bus and it began to roll over. Reedy suffered injuries to her head, neck and back.

During the trial, it was proved that Greyhound had hired an unqualified driver who was not properly trained. Before his employment at Greyhound, the driver had received three speeding convictions just before Greyhound hired him. In the three hours before that accident, the driver used his cell phone 17 times.

Ms. Reedy was awarded $2.2 million in damages, after finding that Greyhound and its driver were grossly negligent causing the crash.

Fatal Crash Trial Settled

Parrish Quarterman, was sentenced five years in prison and to pay a $375 fine after causing a fatal accident in Wood County last year. The accident occurred on August 19, when a tractor-trailer rig that was driven by Mr. Quarterman ran a stop sign at State St. 199 killing Lisa Emahiser, of Luckey, Ohio.

Parrish Quarterman pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and operating a motor vehicle under the influence. He was found to have marijuana in his system at the time of the crash.

Single vehicle accident that killed a man

Matthew Wright swerved off the left side of the road and hit a tree.
He was pronounced died at the scene.
According to reports from the preliminary investigation, alcohol may have been a factor, but they will have to wait for toxicology reports to know for sure.

Two Findlay residents injured in a head-on collision

17-year-old Christina Arnold was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer southbound on Hancock County 180 when she lost control of her vehicle, swerved left and hit 23-year-old Joshua Fellrath, driving a 1996 Eagle Talon, head on.

According to reports, Fellrath's vehicle caught fire with him trapped inside. The fire was able to be contained and he was freed by emergency crews.
Both were transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital. Arnold suffered minor injuries and Fellrath sustained possible head injuries and other injuries that are unknown at this time.

64-year-old Man Dies In Fatal Crash

On Route 88 in Ohio County, a 64-year-old man, whose name will not be released until family is notified, died in a fatal crash. The man was driving a 2007 Ford Focus when he swerved off the road and hit a utility pole.

The fire department had to cut parts of the car to reach the man. Once freed, EMS crews took him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

18-Year-Old Killed Racing with Friend

According to reports, 18-year-old Jonathon Parker was racing 19-year-old Paul Snyder down a two-lane road.
As the teens approached oncoming traffic, Snyder attempted to move into the northbound lane to avoid a collision. His car hit the front left side of Parker's vehicle and both drivers lost control of their vehicles.
Parker's car hit a tree and he died at the scene. Snyder fled the scene, but witnesses helped identify him.
He was contact by police on his cell phone and returned to the scene.

25-year-old man in a car accident

25-year-old William Kyle Edison lost control of his vehicle and ran off the highway. His car drove into the woods where he hit several trees.

Four People taken to a Medical Center after a car accident

19-year-old Jessica Rubinstein, 20-year-old Timothy Rubinstein, 21-year-old Dominic Russell, and an unidentified underage female where involved in a car crash.
According to reports, Jessica was driving a 1998 Honda Civic, she failed to yield to a 1995 Ford F150 pickup truck while attempting to make a left turn.
The front of the truck hit he passenger side of the Honda. The driver of the truck, whose name has not been released, remained at the scene with no injuries.
All four occupants of the Honda were transported to the hospital suffering minor to critical injuries.

Man killed in a rollover crash

30-year-old Reginaldo Dasilva Souza was driving a 1991 Honda Accord when he hit a guardrail, spun across the two southbound lanes, crashed into two concrete barriers and flipped over.
Souza, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Sidney Gomes Dasilva sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a Hospital.
Two lanes of Route 128 were closed for over an hour and a half as police and rescue teams worked the accident site.

Toledo Man Arrested After Crash

Wilbert Robinson Jr., of Toledo was arrested after Adrian Police responded to a one-car crash on Sand Creek Highway. Mr. Robinson was arrested at 7:40 p.p. have police found he had driven in a ditch instead of the nearby driveway.

His blood-alcohol content was 0.18, more than twice the legal limit. He was taken to the Lenawee County Jail.

Cable Barriers to Increase in Ohio

Cable barriers starter being used about 10 years ago along highways in Ohio. Right now there are about 300 miles and they are looking to add more. The cable barriers are cheaper and less damaging than the original guardrails or concrete barriers that are used more now. According to officials the fatal cross-median crash rates have decreased because of these new barriers.

ODOT engineers are looking to add 136 more miles of cable barriers to busy highways and interstates. The cost of doing this is about $95,000 per mile. Steve Faulkner, ODOT spokesman, says that there has only been one fatal crash from a vehicle going cross median where the cable barriers are and that occurred last month. Also data has shown that these cables are safer and that only 15% of people are injured in crashes involving the cable barriers. 15% compared to over 25% from guardrail and 33% of concrete barrier victims are injured is a lot better.

One Teen Dead and Another Seriously Injured In Car Crash

A pickup truck, driven by 18-year-old Christian Kellerbauer, hit a snow plow driven by Marvin Conner, in Perrysburg.
Reports say Conner had stopped in a median and began to travel onto a perpendicular road when he was hit.
Kellerbauer was taken to the University of Toledo Medical center in serious condition. His passenger, 18-year-old Olivia Renee Waller was pronounced dead at the scene.
Conner was not hurt.

24-year-old Ashley Reedy, who was injured in a crash involving a Greyhound bus in December 2007, was awarded $7.2 million in December 2011 by a jury.
Reedy said the Greyhound driver was using a cell phone while driving in icy conditions on an interstate highway. The bus driver braked as he approached a wreck that had occurred on the highway and lost control of the bus.
The bus rolled over and Reedy suffered injuries to her head, neck and back.
It was proved during the trial that Greyhound had hired an unqualified driver who was improperly trained. The bus driver received three speeding convictions shortly before Greyhound hired him.
He had used his cell phone 17 times in the three hours before the accident.
Jurors awarded Reedy $2.2 million in damages and $4.8 million in punitive damages, after finding that Greyhound and its driver were grossly negligent causing the crash.

48-year-old Rick Headen and 40-year-old Charlotte Sedtal, were pronounced dead at the scene of a two car crash.
According to reports, they were driving a Ford Focus traveling eastbound; they swerved over and hit a Dodge pick-up truck traveling westbound.
Their 2-month-old son was also in the Ford Focus. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and a broken leg. He was taken to Scottish Rite Hospital for treatment.

Two people in the truck were injured and taken to Kennestone Hospital; their names have not been released.
The Sheriff's Office traffic unit is currently investigating the crash.

Musch and his four other passengers only sustained minor injuries.

Investigators say 11 minutes before the crash he sent six texts and received five texts. The last text was just before his pickup crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer, beginning a chain collision. The pickup was then rear-ended by a school bus, which was then hit by a second school bus.
The pickup driver and a 15-year-old student on one of the school buses were killed. Thirty-eight other people were injured.
It’s not possible to know from cell phone records if the driver was typing, reaching for the phone or reading a text at the time of the crash, but it’s clear he was manually, cognitively and visually distracted.

Investigators believe the driver, 19-year-old Ho Wo Tam, fell asleep at the wheel of a 2012 Chevy Equinox on I-78.

The car was found crashed into a cluster of trees. Reports say; the students were traveling back to Ohio for school after celebrating New Year's Eve in New York City.

21-year-old Ricky, whose given name is Ka-Hei Fok, was pronounced dead at the scene of a car accident. The second death was 20-year-old Ho Kai Jeffrey Au Yeung, who died around 6 p.m. the next day after sustaining life threatening head injuries from the accident.

Three other people were also involved in the accident. 19-year-old Xinyue Zhang from mainland China and 20-year-old Hennis Han Ling Tung from Malaysia are in stable condition. One is located at the Robert Woods Johnson Hospital and the other is staying at the Morristown Memorial Hospital. Kovach is sustained a broken arm and head injuries from the accident.

Ho Wo Tam was released from the hospital the day after the accident. He was listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

All three male passengers were from Hong Kong, China.

The families of the involved passengers have been notified of the accident and police are still investigating the details of the crash.

Police say alcohol and excessive speed are factors in a late-night accident that sent two young men to the hospital.

20-year-old Alexander Hamilton was speeding in his 2000 Chevy Blazer when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an unoccupied, parked 1997 Nissan.

After the Blazer hit the Nissan, it “bounced” it and rolled several times until it stopped in another yard.

Hamilton was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

He was making a turn at the intersection of SR 83 and SR 303 in Grafton Township when his vehicle was hit by a Mack dump truck being driven by 48-year-old Hiram L. Sipes.

Hamley was guilty of failure to yield to the stop sign when making the turn. His vehicle was severely damaged and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

This accident is currently under investigation.

68-year-old Larry Caldwell died after he was thrown from his station wagon in a crash on the interstate.

Reports say Caldwell entered the interstate heading south in the north bound lanes. He traveled about a half mile before he was hit two other cars. The impact from the crash pushed his vehicle into another car, hitting it nearly head-on, causing the car to split in half.

Three additional people were involved in the accident and where were initially listed in critical condition at area hospitals.

Accident investigators say impairment does not seem to be a factor in the deadly crash.

Veronica Trinidad, 25, was indicted on Monday the Lucas County grand jury on a count of aggravates vehicular homicide. The charge stems from an accident on May 1, 2010. Ms. Trinidad was driving south on Broadway at a high rate of speed when she broadsided the vehcile of Erin Marious, 18. Ms. Marious was turning left onto Broadway from a stop sign on Salem St. when she was struck.

Ms. Marious was taken from the scene to the Toledo Hospital where she died six days later.

Upin further investigation it was found that Ms. Trinidad was traveling at least 55 mph in a 35 moh zone. THe indictment was delated because of the investigation of the crash.

A two-vehicle crash happened on Thursday afternoon on westbound Ohio 129 when a Dodge pickup truck crashed into a beverage truck.

According to reports, the pickup truck lost control and swerved off the highway. It hit a light pole, rolled down an embankment and flipped over several times.

James Dayton saved a 59-year old woman’s life. Her name has not been released.

The woman had been hit by a pickup truck and was being dragged underneath it in a Wal-Mart parking lot when Dayton and his wife walked out of the store.

"We heard a scraping sound. My wife looked and she said it's just a piece of paper, [but] I seen it was a body under the truck," says Dayton.

According to reports, James says he had seen the woman driving the truck coming around the corner, he did not see the truck hit the woman who was in the crosswalk, but he says he noticed the driver was distracted.

When James saw that a woman was trapped underneath he said, "I ran as fast as I could run, got in front of her, stopped her and then checked the woman underneath the car...otherwise she'd probably drug her out of here and killed her."

Emergency arrived and the woman was taken by halo flight to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital.

She's alive.

If your rear wheels skid...

Take your foot off the gas and coast.
Steer in the direction you want the front wheels to go. If your rear wheels are sliding left, steer left. If they're sliding right, steer right.
If your rear wheels start sliding the other way as you recover, ease the steering wheel toward that side. You might have to steer left and right a few times to get your vehicle completely under control.
If you have standard brakes, pump them gently.
If you have anti-lock brakes (ABS), do not pump the brakes. Apply steady pressure to the brakes. You will feel the brakes pulse — this is normal.

If your front wheels skid...

Take your foot off the gas and shift to neutral, but don't try to steer immediately.
As the wheels skid sideways, they will slow the vehicle and traction will return. As it does, steer in the direction you want to go. Then put the transmission in "drive" or release the clutch, and accelerate gently.

If you get stuck...

Do not spin your wheels. This will only dig you in deeper.
Turn your wheels from side to side a few times to push snow out of the way.
Use a light touch on the gas, to ease your car out.
Use a shovel to clear snow away from the wheels and the underside of the car.
Pour sand, kitty litter, gravel or salt in the path of the wheels, to help get traction.
Try rocking the vehicle. (Check your owner's manual first — it can damage the transmission on some vehicles.) Shift from forward to reverse, and back again. Each time you're in gear, give a light touch on the gas until the vehicle gets going.

49-year-old Douglas Bouch, was sentenced to five years in prison for causing a multi-vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike that killed 47-year-old Susan Slattery.

An accident occurred on Airport and South Byrne in Toledo, Ohio on Sunday. Police have stated that the accident happened just before midnight. A car ran a red light and slammed into another car that was in the process of turning onto Airport Highway.

Two people are dead, thirty two people are injured, and eight people are in critical condition after a bus slid on its side, bounced, and crashed into a median.

The actual cause of the crash was not yet known. However, reports say speed and icy conditions were a major factor for the bus driver losing control. He was said to have been traveling between 65 and 70 mph.

Two of the passengers were transported to a hospital by helicopters, either six or eight by where taken by ground ambulance. The rest, which reports called "walking wounded," were taken to a Community Medical Center.

The speed limit in the area is 75 mph, but the law requires motorists to travel at a speed that is safe for the conditions, and reports said authorities were investigating whether the bus was going too fast.

Names of the victims have not been released.

A car came crashing through a Wood County family’s home on Friday night.

Gloria Sweeney said in reports that she was watching TV in her living room, when a car driving down the road outside her house lost control, and crashed into the house.

The driver of the car, Michael Harris, and his passenger, Kenneth Yates, were taken to Wood County Hospital with minor injuries. No one inside the home was injured.

18-year-old Christopher Jacob was driving his 2003 Ford Focus when he swerved left hitting 27-year-old Robert Whittecar's car, drove off the side of the road, rolled over, and stopped in a ditch on Ohio 2 east in Ottawa County.

Jacob was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital by LifeFlight. Whittecar, had minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.

Jacob’s passenger, 17-year-old Nicole Villareal and 20-month-old Braydin Jacob were also transported to St. Vincent's for injuries.

No citations have been issued and the investigation is ongoing. Drug and alcohol use is not believed to be a factor.

Reports say Smith swerved his Buick Regal across the center line into the path of Edinger's Subaru Outback.

Edinger was transported to Marietta Memorial by a rescue unit from the Devola Volunteer Fire Department. Smith was flown from the scene to the Columbus trauma center by a medical helicopter unit.

In 2009, there were 3,200 deaths in accidents involving big trucks. These big tour buses average about 20 deaths each year to passengers out of more than 70 million passenger trips a year in the U.S. Reports show that between 2000 and 2009, tour buses were involved in 338 fatal crashes.

The Obama administration has made some proposals to improve bus and truck regulation. One proposal would require equipping trucks and buses with devices that record how long drivers have been behind the wheel. About one third of all commercial motor vehicle crashes are due to fatigue, according to NTSB. The administration also wants to reduce the daily limit that drivers spend driving from 11 hours to 10 hours. The proposal would also require mandatory breaks, limit overall work day to 14 hours and require that drivers be given more time off to rest when they’ve reached their weekly limit of 60 hours.

Safety advocates argue that it is just as important to ensure passengers can survive a crash when one occurs. The NTSB has been trying to push for stronger bus roofs that wont crush in rollover accidents, better emergency exits, better fire protection and windows that prevent passengers from being ejected. They also want trucks and buses to be equipped with electronic stability control to prevent rollovers, adaptive cruise control that automatically adjusts speed to traffic, warning systems that alert drivers when they are drifting into another lane and warning systems that alert drivers to an impending collision.

Boyer was indicted by an Ottawa county grand jury on four counts of aggravated vehicular assault, but he pleaded to a single third- degree felony in an agreement with prosecutors.
Boyer had been traveling northbound on State Route 53 in Catawba Island Township when he failed to properly turn, he went off the road, and struck a utility pole, injuring all four of his passengers.
Investigators stated that Boyer had been intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The accident happened about 12:55 a.m. on Northwest Catawba Rd. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Chris Bradford, 57, drove off the side of the roadway, overcorrected and rand off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Mr. Bradford was pronounced dead at the scene.

17-year-old Brock Cherry lost control of his 1992 Subaru Legacy was thrown from his car as it continued to spin and hit a telephone pole and several fences.

Cherry was rushed to the Eastern Idaho Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Reports say, Cherry was speeding, which, combined with slick roads, caused the crash, however the accident is still under investigation.

According to reports a multi-Vehicle accident occurred on I-75 on December 21, 2011 at around 7:10 am.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash — a semitrailer, van, and a third vehicle with California plates. The names of those involved have not yet been released.

One person has been taken to Atrium Medical Center with back pain.

An accident that occurred at 3:46 p.m. on Monday afternoon inured six people and killed one.

Ohio State Highway Patrol at the Elyria Post said that the accident happened on U.S. 20 just west of Route 511. They stated that a 1991 cadillac was westbound on U.S. 20 when it crossed the center line, hitting a 2004 Kia minvan. The driver of the cadillac was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the minivan, Jerry Moon Sr., was unresponsive and taken by helicopter. His injureis are non-life threatening and he is expected to survive.

The other five people injured were passengers in the minivan. They were all taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

16-year-old Bryce Stoneking died after he turned his wheel to hard and ran his 1999 Ford Escort off the road and ended up down an embankment smashed into a fir tree.
Stoneking was driving home from a school event. Reports say his family reported him missing at about 11 p.m. that night because he didn't return home on time.
His family members searched the entire route between his school and home. Eventually, a passing driver discovered the crash scene on Pittsburg Road just west of Gensman Road.

Ohio State Highway Patrol stated that all three drivers involved sustained serious injuries from the accident. One of the drivers was transported from the scene by helicopter.

71-year-old James Crates passed away at St. Rita's Medical Center earlier this week. He was a victim in an accident Sunday afternoon.

Reports show Crates was critically injured when his car went left of center on State Route 31 near Mt. Victory and hit a southbound tractor.

He was taken by Life Flight to St. Rita's where he passed away Monday night.

Crates' wife Carol was also in the car, but was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.

Chenille Mallet died Sunday morning and two other people were injured in a crash on Interstate 75 near Interstate 475 at around 3 a.m.

Two drivers were injured in a three-vehicle crash over the weekend of December 16, 2011. The drivers did not seem to have serious injuries at the scene.
Monroeville resident Morgan M. Rarick, was charged with failure to control in connection with the accident about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The three-vehicle collision happened on U.S. 20 near DeRussey Road.
Rarick, while eastbound on U.S. 20, lost control due to icy road conditions that swept across the area on sundown Saturday. She crossed the center line according to the report.
The 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt she was driving then was hit by the westbound 1995 Ford Bronco driven by Mona G. Fincham.
Fincham's sport utility vehicle was hit in the rear by Alexis N. Ramage. Ramage was driving westbound on U.S. 20 directly behind Fincham before the accident.
Fincham and Ramage weren't transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
The Cobalt driven by Rarick and the 2002 Ford Mustang driven by Ramage were towed from the scene with disabling damage.

Melanie Ann Shirkey from West Viginia, lost control of her 2003 Cadillac Escalade and drove over an embankment at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.

She died at the scene.

Shirkey's 10-year-old son, Nathan, was rescued from the wreckage by members of the Spruce River Volunteer Fire Department. He was taken by a Boone County Ambulance to an awaiting helicopter, which airlifted him to CAMC General Hospital in Charleston.

He is in critical condition.

Saturday December 17, 2011 was the first time this winter that ice hit the roads, and hit them hard. East of Port Clinton, Ohio got hit with ice on the roadways.
Police officers in the surrounding four counties of Port Clinton were responding to multiple accidents as ice formed on bridges and overpasses as the sun went down.
Multiple crashes were first reported on the Portage River Bridge and Ohio 2 when wet roads from the day’s light snowfall quickly turned to a sheet of ice.
For hours it was all hands to the roads as crashes on bridges and overpasses all over Ottawa, Erie, Huron and Sandusky counties flooded dispatch stations. Even Border Patrol assisted in traffic control and closing off dangerous ice-covered roads.
According to law enforcement the accidents that occurred were not life threatening.
Most of the multi-vehicle crashes were on Ohio 2 bridges and overpasses, including several on the Edison Bridge.
Crashes were reported by the Ohio 53 off ramp, Ohio 2 just west of the bridge at Ohio 163 as well as on local streets such as Campbell Street overpass in Perkins Township.
First responders from multiple agencies were asked to handle multiple crashes at Ohio 2 and the Columbus Avenue overpass.
A car was reported hanging over a guardrail near the intersection of Galloway Road and Ohio 2.
Huron and Sandusky county sheriffs’ dispatchers said they had crashes all over bridges and intersections all over the county. In Sandusky County most involved three to four vehicles.
Erie County Sheriff dispatch said it also had crashes all over the county, with Ohio 2 being particularly bad.
On the turnpike dispatchers said there were about nine crashes in the area as of 8 p.m.
Police officers remind drivers to take caution when the temperature drops below 30, especially after a light rain or drizzle during the day.
County and township road crews were called out to start salting the roads.

A local motorist's blood alcohol content (BAC) level tested at more than three times the legal limit after a drunk driving crash Tuesday.
The BAC of Bryan D. Lindenberger, 24, was .285, according to the report written by Trooper Steven Drew, of the state Highway Patrol. Bryan’s BAC was more than three times the legal limit of .08 for Ohio drivers.
Lindenberger was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) -- his first such offense -- and failure to control in connection with the non-injury crash on Lovers Lane Road about a half-mile west of Whittlesey Road. The accident happened about 6:10 p.m.
He was driving northbound when he crossed the center line, went off the left side and into a ditch, Drew wrote in his report.
Local EMS responded to the crash site around 6:15 p.m.

Five people total were hurt in a bus collision. Four students and one adult were injured Thursday afternoon when a school bus from the Christina School District collided with a car in Newark.
The crash occurred at about 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Capitol Trail and Woodlawn Avenue.
Preliminary information suggests the bus was headed east on Capitol Trail through the intersection at Woodlawn Avenue when it hit the front driver's side of a 2006 Toyota Camry operated by an 82-year-old woman.
The woman needed help getting out of the wreckage and was taken to Christiana Hospital, said John Farrall of Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company of Newark.
Four students -- ages 16 and 17 -- from Newark High School were taken to the hospital with reported neck and back injuries and were released.

Officials say that Cody Madaj was driving eastbound on US-30, when he attempted to make a turn onto State Route 49 and was cut off by a van driven by Jon Smith, 45.

9-year old Shivam, was killed while he was watching a wedding procession at Jabalpur Kalan Thursday night. Reports say he was hit by a bullet in his neck during the ceremony in south Delhi.

"Few drunken men had started firing in the ceremony. Two of them went to the stage where the groom and bride were sitting and started firing. They fired around 35 rounds, one of those hit the boy," Deputy Commissioner of Police A.K. Ojha told IANS.

Shivam was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he was declared dead.

Two people have been arrested and identified as relatives of the boy. Their names have not yet been released.

In situations like this one, I believe that as long as a driver would have caused death by dangerously driving under the influence of alcohol, he should be jailed and banned from driving for life.

31 year old Brian Gray was rear-ended on I-85 northbound near exit 18 in Troup County Sunday.

Gray was transported to West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange and his wife Pamela was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center where she remains hospitalized. Their daughter Helen died in the collision.

The driver of the other vehicle, Luke Waters, was treated at the scene.

Authorities have confirmed that one person has been killed after a car and train collision on Nadeau Road near Wolverine drive on Wednesday afternoon.

Alexandra D McDuffie, of Monroe, Michigan was driving West on Nadeau Road, when her car was struck by a Norfolk Southern train that was traveling Southbound. McDuffie was ejected from the vehicle.

Hancock County Sherriff’s deputies have found the body of a Hancock County woman whose car was extracted from a water-filled ditch in Portage Township Wednesday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to three separate crashes in the southbound lanes on Interstate 75 on Tuesday afternoon. The accidents had traffic backed up all the way to North Baltimore at one point. The crashes were located at Allen Twp. road 101, Allen Twp. 99 and U.S. 68 at I-75.

They weren't the only crashes on the interstate Tuesday. A tractor-trailer jackknifed on southbound I-75 just south of Findlay on Tuesday night, which backed up traffic for about two miles at the time. No injuries were reported. Several other crashes, some with reported injuries.

A child was send to the hospital Tuesday morning with "traumatic injuries" in San Jose due to a two car crash.

Two cars traveling in opposite directions near the corner of Lincoln and Franklin streets collided, with one car spinning out of control into the Carmelite Monastery wall.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they reported finding a 4-year-old boy unconscious but they were able to resuscitate him. There are no reports of injury to the other child involved.

The unnamed boy was transported to Valley Medical Center. Two unnamed women and a 10-year-old girl were also transported to area hospitals.

Lemmerbrock was transported by air ambulance to St. Rita's Hospital, Lima where she died from her injuries.

At around 5:00 am at the intersection of Road O, Verhoff was driving south on State Route 65 Saturday morning when he went off the west side of the road and into a ditch, hitting an embankment. The Putnam County Coroner pronounced Verhoff dead at the scene of the crash.

The numbers released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol show that 14 people were killed on Ohio's roadways between the Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving. In 2010, 18 people died during the same period and in 2009 20 lost their lives.

Arrests of drunken drivers, including the accident in Port Clinton Ohio, were up 14 percent compared with last year's holiday and drug arrests jumped 37 percent.

One traffic stop led troopers to seize about $800,000 in cash from a motorhome.

Danbury Township residents lose power | Danbury Ohio Car Accident Attorney

A minivan traveling east in the 6800 block of East Harbor Road took out a 15-foot section from a utility pole, resulting in a power outage to more than 4,250 customers in the area.
According to the Ohio Highway Patrol report Brandon Gessinger, was driving an Oldsmobile minivan when he experienced a mechanical failure that sent the vehicle off the left side of the road. After hitting a culvert, the minivan went airborne, careening over one of Skipper Bud's driveways before striking the pole and snapping off the lower section.
A caller to Ottawa County's dispatch center reported the front end of the van was missing and the driver was walking around in a front yard, apparently dazed.
Gessinger was not seriously injured and was treated and released by the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department's EMS unit. Gessinger was not cited for the accident.
Gary Mortus, a spokesman for FirstEnergy, said the pole supported lines carrying 34,500 volts. The pole dropped down about 15 feet immediately, but remained upright. It caught fire a short time later.
The road was closed while Ohio Edison crews cut lines. Edison crews worked until after 9 p.m. to install a new pole and re- attach lines. Around 5 p.m. power had been restored to about 3,100 customers. Power to all homes and businesses had been restored by about 9:30 p.m.

Multiple people injured in hayride crash | Toledo Ohio Car Accident Attorney

Two men were flown to a Toledo hospital after they were injured in a hayride crash in Perkins Township.
According to the report, Ruben Cruz Jr., and Raynoldo Cruz, both of Castalia, were taken to Bellevue Hospital with serious injuries before being flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo Ohio.
Medical staff at the hospital said the men have been released with non-lifethreatening injuries.
The Cruzes were among 28 people injured in the crash, which occurred when the second trailer of a hayride overturned in the 6200 block of Patten Tract Road.
Troopers arrested the driver of the tractor, Michael L. Hermes for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol after he refused to take a field sobriety test. Hermes was not injured in the crash. Troopers took Hermes to the Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, where a warrant was issued to draw blood from him for alcohol tests to be performed at the Patrol's crime lab.
Hermes, was also charged with aggravated vehicular assault, open container and failure to control and jailed at the Erie County jail.

Battery and Charging System - Have the battery and charging system tested by a trained technician. A fully charged battery in good condition is required to start an engine in cold weather.
Battery Cables and Terminals - Make sure the battery terminals and cable ends are free from corrosion, and the connections are tight.
Drive Belts - Inspect the underside of accessory drive belts for cracks or fraying. Many newer multi-rib "serpentine" belts are made of materials that do not show obvious signs of wear; replace these belts at 60,000-mile intervals.
Engine Hoses - Inspect cooling system hoses for leaks, cracks or loose clamps. Also, squeeze the hoses and replace any that are brittle or excessively spongy feeling.
Tire Type and Tread - In areas with heavy winter weather, installing snow tires on all four wheels will provide the best winter traction. All-season tires work well in light to moderate snow conditions provided they have adequate tread depth. Replace any tire that has less than 3/32-inches of tread. Uneven tire wear can indicate alignment, wheel balance or suspension problems that must be addressed to prevent further tire damage.
Tire Pressure - Check tire inflation pressure more frequently in fall and winter. As the average temperature drops, so will tire pressures - typically by 1 PSI for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The proper tire pressure levels can be in the owner's manual or on a sticker typically located on the driver's side door jamb. Also, check the spare.
Air Filter - Check the engine air filter by holding it up to a 60-watt light bulb. If light can be seen through much of the filter, it is still clean enough to work effectively. However, if light is blocked by most of the filter, replace it.

Suspect in fatal Tomasheski crash pleads not guilty

The man indicted for allegedly driving drunk and killing a mother and her young son earlier this year has pleaded not guilty in court.
Gerald Wetherbee Jr., 35, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, DUI, driving under suspension and more for the June 11 accident in the Village of Grafton.
Authorities said Wetherbee went left of center while traveling on state Route 83 and struck the Tomasheski family of four head-on.
Tammy Tomasheski, 36, died shortly after the accident at a nearby hospital. Her 11-year-old son, Tommy, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tom Tomasheski, a Lorain County Sheriff's Deputy, and his daughter, Danielle, are recovering from the accident.
Troopers said Wetherbee's blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit that night.
Wetherbee remains jailed. He is scheduled for a pre-trial on Friday morning.

Woman charged with drunken driving with child for 2nd time | Toledo Ohio personal injury attorney

The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices would like to inform you that a woman who was found guilty of drunken driving with her child in the car in June, was arrested Monday night on another drunken driving offense.
Mentor police arrested Tomeka Stockwell, after they found her car stopped on the side of Ohio 2 with a flat tire shortly before midnight.
Police said the woman had her 4-year-old son with her. She was charged with drunken driving after she failed sobriety tests and refused blood tests.
According to court records, she pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Mentor Municipal Court to charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, child endangering, driving with a suspended license, failing to properly restrain her child in the car and not wearing a seat belt.
Court records show that on June 20, the woman was found guilty of driving drunk in Mentor with her 3-year-old son in the car while she was 8 months pregnant.
She was sentenced to 90 days in jail and a $675 fine, but the jail time was suspended when she agreed to attend a driver awareness program and perform two days of community service.
The woman's son was released to the custody of a grandmother.

Multi- car accident on Ohio 339 | Toledo Ohio car accident attorney

Emergency crews diverted traffic along Ohio 339 this morning to respond to a multi-car accident.
Multiple units responded to the early morning multi-car accident on Rt. 339, just north of the Spence Road intersection.
Traffic was diverted from the scene, onto Spence Road, for almost three hours as officials worked to free an entrapped driver, clean up the scene and map out the crash.
Capt. Dave Ankrom, with the Little Hocking VFD said officials had to block traffic to free an entrapped driver in one of the vehicles.
According to the report Ankrom said at least one person was seriously injured in the accident. The as-of-yet unidentified driver was transported to Camden Clark Medical Center. Officials attempted to have the driver air-evaced from the area twice, but heavy fog prevented a helicopter from a approaching the scene.

Police officer crashes into pole off of Whiteford Road | Toledo Ohio car accident attorney

There must be something up with a stretch of road in Sylvania Township. For the second time this year a police car crashed into a power pole.
The crash happened Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m. along Whiteford Road near Monroe Street. Many area residences were alarmed by the crash and came outside to check on the driver.
Earlier this year on January 10th of this year, another Sylvania Township squad car was making a u-turn near the very same spot. That's when police say Officer Kelli Scott lost control of her cruiser and rolled into a utility pole.
Ten months later, it happened again! This time was not as severe as the last but still caused damages. Police blocked off the road for a couple of hours. Even though the power was on, drivers couldn't get through.
By 11 a.m., Toledo Edison was on hand to put in a new pole, and help get Whiteford Road clear for travel.

Women killed in Defiance crash | Defiance Ohio car accident lawyer

Two women from Defiance were killed when their sport utility vehicle crashed Tuesday on U.S. 24 in eastern Defiance County.

Both the driver, Judith Wertz, 67, and her passenger, Kerri Wertz, 42, were pronounced dead at the scene. The Troopers did not say how the victims were related to each other.

The accident occurred when Ms. Wertz's SUV was westbound on U.S. 24 just east of Jewell Road in Richland Township. At about 1:07 p.m. the SUV drove off the right side of the road, struck a ditch, and rolled over. The vehicle then rolled onto Jewell, crossed it, and came to rest in a field, according to the patrol. The victims were not wearing seat belts, troopers said.

The crash occurred about 2 miles east of Defiance, which is about 55 miles southwest of Toledo.

Woman injured in two car crash on Mason Road | Sandusky Ohio car accident lawyer

State Route 2
SR 2, between the State Route 13 and Berlin Road interchanges, is reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction for bridge repairs. The project is expected to be complete in September 2012.

US Route 6 - ***NEW***
US 6, just east of Frailey Road in Vermilion Township, will close Monday, October 10 for a culvert replacement project. The detour route for eastbound motorists is US 6 to State Route 61, south on SR-61 to State Route 2, east on SR-2 to State Route 60, north on SR-60 to US 6, and reverse for westbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen on October 25, 2011.

State Route 61 - ***NEW***
SR 61 (Lake Street), between Mechanic Street and Mason Road in the Village of Berlin Heights, will close Monday, October 10 for improvement work. The detour route for northbound motorists is SR-61 to State Route 113, east on SR-113 to State Route 60, north on SR-60 to State Route 2, west on SR-2 to SR-61, and reverse for southbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen at the end of October, 2011.

Ferndale Drive
Ferndale Drive, between Superior Street and George Street, is closed as part of the US Route 6 railroad grade separation project. Motorists may use Superior Street and George Street as alternate routes. The road will reopen in early November, 2011.

HURON COUNTY
State Route 303
SR-303, 0.5 mile west of State Route 60, is closed for a bridge replacement project. The detour route for eastbound motorists is SR-303 to SR-60, north on SR-60 to U.S. Route 20, east on U.S. 20 to State Route 511, south on SR-511 to SR-303, and reverse for westbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen in late-October 2011.

LORAIN COUNTY
State Route 2
SR 2, between Baumhart Road and Oak Point Road, is restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction as part of bridge repair project. The project is expected to be complete in late-October, 2011.

State Route 2 - ***UPDATE***
SR 2, at its bridge under Oberlin Road (between State Route 58 and Middle Ridge Road), has night time single lane closures in each direction as part of a bridge replacement project. The work zone will be in place each work night from 7:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. the following morning. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times throughout the daytime hours; however, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during the night. The project is expected to be complete in mid-October, 2011.
• Oberlin Road is closed as part of this bridge replacement project. Motorists are encouraged to use Middle Ridge Road, Cooper Foster Park Road and North Ridge Road as a detour route.

Gulf Road
Gulf Road, over Interstate 90, is closed for bridge replacement work. The detour for northbound motorists is Gulf Road to Burns Road, east on Burns Road to State Route 301/Abbe Road, north on SR 301 to State Route 254, west on SR 254 to Gulf Road, and reverse for southbound motorists. This project is expected to be completed in late October, 2011.

Nagel Road
Nagel Road, over Interstate 90 (between Chester Road and Avon Road), is closed as part of the new interchange construction project. The detour route for southbound motorists is Nagel Road to Chester Road, west on Chester Road to Jaycox Road, south on Jaycox Road to Detroit Road, east on Detroit Road to Nagel Road, and reverse for northbound motorists. The road is expected to reopen in September 2013.

Distracted driving is on the rise and with that the number of automobile crashes that result from unsafe behavior. In the past drivers were distracted by the radio, and putting on make-up while driving. Now drivers are not only distracted by those things but their smart phones, mp3 players, Facebook, Twitter, sending a text message, reading a text that was received and their e-mails.
Between 2008 and 2010 there were 31,024 crashes in Ohio caused by distracted driving. Seventy-one ended in at least one death, and 7,678 crashes caused injuries.

Distracted driving is any non-driving activity that has potential to increase the risk of crashing. Distractions can be visual - taking eyes of the road; manual - taking hands off the wheel; or cognitive - taking the mind off driving. Sending text messages involves all three.

It is dangerous to take your eyes off the road and every time you do you lose focus. Just taking a glance at the text or seeing who is calling is distracting and in the end could be deadly. Elderly woman injured in Mason Road | Sandusky Ohio car accident attorney

Paramedics rushed a Sandusky woman to Firelands Regional Medical Center Tuesday after a two-car crash on Mason Road.
Lena Cherry, appeared to be in a lot of pain, but thankfully she was still able to talk to emergency workers.
The paramedics were unsure of her total injuries at the time of the accident.
Cherry was a passenger in a 1995 Olds Ninety-Eight driven by Jimmie Cherry Jr. Jimmie told deputies he was going about 55 mph when an oncoming Honda Civic stopped to turn across his lane, making it impossible to avoid a collision.
The driver of the 1998 Civic was William Green. William told deputies he was turning into his driveway on Mason Road when the Oldsmobile T-boned his car.
Deputies cited Green for failure to yield the right-of-way.

2 killed in semi accident | Toledo Ohio car accident lawyer

Two men were killed in a head on collsion Monday night on I-70. The men killed are Zemir Rizvic, 45, and Alejandro Santibanez, 18.

The accident occurred when Rizvic lost control of the semi he was driving. The semi then rolled on its side, crossed the center mediam and hit Santibanez, who was driving a GMC Jimmy. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is still being investigated.

The man who caused the June car accident that left two people dead and two others fighting for their life has been indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, driving under suspension and DUI.

The accident happened on State Route 83 when Gerald Wetherbee Jr. veered left of center and smashed his Kia Optima into a Honda Civic. The Civic was being driven by Tom Tomasheski. The crash killed Tammy Tomasheski and 11-year-old Tommy Tomasheski.

Injured were Tom Tomasheski, a corporal at Lorain County Jail, and Danielle Tomasheski. Both had very lengthy stays at the hospital and continue to recover from their injuries.

Tests show that Wetherbee had a blood alcohol level of .209, which is more than twice the legal limit. Wetherbee also was driving under a suspended license at the time of the accident.

A car accident on Saturday afternoon on the Ohio Turnpike has left Trooper Kenneth Collins injured. After the accident, Kenneth was Life Flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center. He is now recovering at home.

The accident occured when Trooper Collins was on a traffic stop. A car struck Collins' car from behind and then struck two other vehicles. Two drivers as well as one passenger were all taken to loacl hospitals.

The crash, which happened in the westbound lane just after 4:30 is still under investigation by the State Highway Patrol.

A Willard, Ohio woman and her 5-year-old daughter were injured after an unlicensed motorist ran a stop sign and collided with their vehicle.
Alonso Lopez, was charged with failure to yield at a stop sign and not having a driver's license following a crash Friday on Ohio 99 and Townline Road 12, New Haven, according to the report.
Lopez was traveling west on Townline Road 12, came to an intersection and stopped.
Heidi Back, was southbound on Ohio 99 with her 5-year-old daughter.
Lopez then pulled out into the intersection and struck Back's vehicle, which went off the Southside of the roadway and into a private yard.
Lopez was transported to Willard Mercy with non-incapacitating injuries. Back traveled with her daughter to Willard Mercy Hospital under their own power later on.
Not only was Lopez driving without a driver's license, he was also driving a vehicle that did not belong to him. The owner of the vehicle did not wish to press charges at the time.

Six people are recovering after an accident on City Park Ave. near Indiana Street in Toledo Ohio. According to Toledo police a white SUV traveling northbound on City Park collided with a green mini-van westbound on Indiana.

Six people, including five children were inside the green van. All of them suffered what police are calling minor injuries. The drivers of both vehicles say they stopped at the stop sign at that intersection. Police are still investigating who's at fault.

Two wrecks in one day for fugitive | Huron Ohio car accident lawyer

Let's just say that Friday was a horrible day for a 20-year-old Jeremiah S. Egnor of Cleveland.
First, he was involved in a traffic accident, which led to his arrest on a warrant. Then he was involved in a second wreck when a deputy crashed his cruiser while transporting inmates, which we reported about yesterday. Worse yet, that second wreck sent him to the hospital.
The first accident happened around 5:45 p.m. Friday, when an area resident called the Huron County Sheriff's Office to report there was an accident at the intersection of Ohio 4 and U.S. 20 near Bellevue. The caller reported he "thought someone had been injured due to the windshield being broken on one of the vehicles," according to the report.
Emergency crews responded to the scene. While at the scene, it was discovered that one of the subjects was wanted on an active warrant out of the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office.
Jeremiah S. Egnor was arrested on a probation violation from an underlying conviction involving dangerous drugs. He was taken to the Huron County Jail.
Deputy Josh Querin later requested a report stemming from the discovery of drugs in connection with the accident. As a result, Egnor was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Shortly after 9 that evening, Deputy Shannon Lyons was transporting Egnor and another inmate to an unspecified location when his cruiser crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Ohio 547 in the center of Monroeville.
As a result of that accident, Egnor was transported to Fisher-Titus Medical Center by North Central EMS; he was treated and released. No one else reported injuries.
Egnor remains in custody and is being held until he is released to Cuyahoga County authorities.

ODOT has released some tips to help drivers avoid hitting deer. They are:

Deputy Sheriff crashes cruiser | Huron Ohio car accident attorney

The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices, LLC would like to report that Monroeville police are still investigating a two-vehicle accident involving a Huron County sheriff's deputy who was transporting two inmates.
Deputy Shannon Lyons, was driving a 2006 Ford Crown VI cruiser south on U.S. 20 Friday night. She approached the intersection at Ohio 547, with the vehicle's overhead lights and sirens activated, according to the Monroeville police report.
Lyons continued through a red light at the intersection, traveling about 45 mph, and slammed into the passenger's side of a westbound 2006 Pontiac being driven by Thomas C. Smith, Smith's vehicle had been going about 15 mph.
The collision caused Smith's vehicles to spin 180 degrees.
Neither Lyons nor Smith reported injuries. However, one of the two inmates, Jeremiah S. Egnor, was transported to Fisher-Titus Medical Center by EMS. The other inmate, Justin D. Ramsey, was not injured.

The study also acounted for "external influences" such as bad weather and construction. So things like poor road conditions did not affect this study.

Allstate issues about 10 percent of the nation's auto policies so the report is a realistic look into the best and worst drivers.

Huron County deputy injured in SUV-pickup collision | Huron Ohio car accident attorney

The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices is happy to report that a Huron County Sheriff's deputy is in stable condition at a Toledo hospital late Thursday. He was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Norwich Township.
Deputy John Harris was flown by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
Troopers and dispatchers at Ohio State Highway Patrol's Norwalk post declined to confirm Harris was the deputy involved in the crash, but hospital workers said a man by that name arrived there Thursday evening to be treated for crash injuries.
The deputy was on duty and driving an unmarked SUV south on Miller Road when at about 6:16 p.m. he ran a stop sign at Egypt Road, Ohio State Highway Patrol dispatchers said.
The all-black SUV collided into a pickup that was hauling a camper west on Egypt Road, causing the camper to overturn according to the report.
The deputy was ejected from the SUV upon impact, and both vehicles then came to rest on the south side of the intersection. The pickup's driver sustained only minor injuries.

Head-on collision injures two | Whitehouse Ohio car accident attorneys

Two vehicles crashed late Monday afternoon near Anthony Wayne High School on Weckerly Road in Whitehouse. No students were involved in the accident.
Joseph A. Phillips, was traveling west on Weckerly Road in his 1997 Buick Skylark when he went left of center, striking an eastbound 2008 Dodge Ram full size pick-up. The pickup was driven by Richard C. Lippert.
Phillips was removed from the vehicle by Waterville Township Fire Department and flown to Toledo Hospital by Promedica helicopter. He is currently in serious condition with multiple injuries. Lippert was transported to St. Luke's Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Lippert was wearing his seatbelt and had not been drinking. Phillips' injuries are consistent with non-seatbelt use. The crash still remains under investigation at this time.

Dallas billionaire Charles Wyly died in a car accident in Colorado on Sunday. He is the one who gave 20 million dollars to the AT&T Performing Arts Center, which helped to build the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre. He was trying to turn his Porsche onto a road near the Aspenitkin County Airport when another car hit him around 11 in the morning. About an hour later he was pronounced dead at an area hospital. He was the only one in the car and the other driver had moderate injuries, the coroner's office said it was just an accident but the autopsy of Charles Wyly is still not completed and the State Patrol is still investigating the accident.
The AT&T Performing Arts Center includes the Winspear Opera House and Wyly Theatre. Charles and his brother Sam amassed their fortune over the last 50 years by buying, growing and selling their businesses like Bonanza and Ponderosa steakhouses, the arts and craft store Michaels, Green Mountain Energy and Sterling Software. When the brothers sold the Sterling Software Company the SEC accused them of insider trading. The brothers also gave over 1 million dollars to the Republican National Committee in 2000 and 2004 and helped start the career of U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling who is a Republican who represents Texas. In 2005 the SEC started their investigation into the brothers business dealings and accused them of illegal stock sales that were worth more than half a billion dollars. They also used offshore tax shelters to conceal 550 million dollars worth of transactions; from 1992 through 2004 the money was spent on jewelry, art, real estate, and charities. The brothers claim they are not guilty but the ruling had not been in their favor; just two weeks before Charles died he was ordered to turn over numerous documents they wanted to withhold under the attorney client privilege rule.

On Sunday there was a two-vehicle accident. Margaret A. Austin was a front seat passenger in Adam M. Haviland's SUV. A one vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike on Friday left one man dead.

The accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. in Lorain County. Lawrence Hein, 71, and his wife Carloyn were traveling westbound when they hit the northern guardrail and then re-entered the road. Their vehicle then crossed the westbound lanes, hit the median and stopped in the westbound lanes.

2 cars collided on Monday afternoon, sending one of the vehicles crashing into a house. The accident happened on Township Road 178 near Seneca Caverns when Stacey Keckler, 23 was driving north on Township Road 82 when she ran a stop sign.
Although Keckler swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, she was unsuccessful and hit a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country driven by Penny Haven, 53. The van then was driven into the house. Donald Henney, 27, owns the home and was inside at the time of the accident. He was unharmed.
Both Keckler and her 3 year-old daughter were treated and released from the hospital. The driver of the van and her passenger Ronald Dendinger, 54, did not receive life-threatening injuries, but their conditions could not be confirmed.
Keckler was cited for a stop sign violation. She was traveling in an unfamiliar area and claims she did not see the sign.

In an accident on Sunday Jennifer Dauer and Michelle Neuser died. The accident occurred on East Poe Road between Carter road and Scotch Ridge road. It is reported that Jennifer Dauer had lost control of her car and hit Michelle Neuser's car. Jennifer died at the scene of the accident and Michelle later died at the hospital. The accident is under investigation to determine what exactly caused the deadly crash.

Man skids on gravel road, dies in crash | Toledo Ohio car accident lawyer

A seasonal worker died Sunday evening when he lost control of a vehicle while driving along a gravel road near the Huron and Crawford county line.
Alvaro Ibarra, 37, lived in Willard and worked at Wiers Farm, not far from where the crash occurred. Troopers reached his relatives in California.
Lt. John Maxey, commander of the Norwalk post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said Ibarra skidded off the left side of Baseline Road, about three-tenths of a mile west of Bevier Road. The 2001 Ford Taurus he was driving struck a ditch and overturned, throwing him from the vehicle.
He was not wearing a seat belt.
Another driver reported the crash at 6:44 p.m., and Ibarra was dead by the time troopers arrived to conduct their investigation at 7:12. First-responders were already at the scene, Maxey said.
The car had disabling damage and no license plates. Troopers were still trying to track down its owner Monday afternoon.
Maxey said they received information that Ibarra was test-driving the vehicle, but they hadn't confirmed that.
They also continue to investigate other factors that may have contributed to the crash.
It's not yet known how fast Ibarra was driving, but Maxey said he was "definitely traveling too fast to control that particular vehicle" on a gravel road.
Troopers are also awaiting routine toxicology reports to find out whether he was under the influence ofalcohol or drugs.

A Genoa man died after an accident happened in his barn on Friday afternoon. Rescue crews were called for a person who was trapped under a tractor. There was a second call made to emergency services saying that the person was still trapped and that the tractor was smoking. David L. Shessler was working on a tractor inside the barn and the tractor had unexpectedly started. The tractor had trapped and crushed him under the right rear tire. The tractor then continued to run and the spinning of the rear tire started a fire, the fire was extinguished with a hand-held fire extinguisher. The county coroner had pronounced David dead at the scene of the accident.

Scott Smith then swerved to avoid the second car and went off the road and his truck hit the trees. The accident is still under investigation.

According to the reports Richard England, of Marblehead tried to pass a car on State Route 53 near Port Clinton when he hit a Jeep head-on. He then hit another vehicle before being thrown out of his car.
We are saddened to report that England was pronounced dead at the scene. A total of four vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction accident.

Samantha Sweeting was taken to a Toledo trauma center after an accident with a Huron County Highway Department truck. She was going north on New State Road, Brandon Webb who was driving the pickup truck was driving east on Peru-Olena Road. Brandon was going to pick up some people that were mowing; he stopped at the stop sign and then entered the intersection but did not see her car. Her Grand Am then flipped and landed upside down on the side of the road. The rear driver's side tire was wedged parallel to the ground and there was one deep tire mark that went from a little past the intersection to where the car stopped which was about 40 feet; part of the exterior of the car was trapped under the front passenger tire of the truck and on the truck the front grill and fender were all twisted. LifeFlight came and flew Samantha to the hospital.

The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices is saddened to report a deadly accident that happened Saturday morning has killed one man and injured two others. The car the victims were riding in crashed into a North Toledo home.
According to the report the driver of the vehicle, Michael Geisen is dead. Michael's two passengers--Kendal Thorn and Daniel Clapsaddle--are hospitalized with injuries.
According to the report police attempted to stop the Geisen car for reckless operation at the corner of Matzinger Road and Stickney Avenue.
The car fled and smashed into Lonny Edersole's front porch on Detroit Avenue just North of Alexis Road. The impact actually split the car in two.
At the time of the crash, Mr. Edersole, his wife and two kids were in the basement of their home watching a movie.
"We're pretty rattled up. This is where my kids play. If out on the porch, could have been hurt" says Mr. Edersole.

Ohio 53 more dangerous than ever | Port Clinton Ohio car accident lawyer

An investigation is still underway after another fatal Saturday night crash in Bay Township, Ottawa County, involving four vehicles.
The crash occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday night on Ohio 53 outside of Port Clinton.
The report shows that Richard England, of Marblehead, was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer when he attempted to pass a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox traveling north.
While in the southbound lane, the Explorer collided with a 2006 Jeep Commander that was traveling south on Ohio 53. The Explorer then hit a second vehicle, a 2004 Hyundai Sonata, in the rear.
England was not wearing a seatbelt, at the time of the crash and he was ejected from the vehicle. Englad was pronounced dead at the scene. Jason England, Oak Harbor, was the front passenger in England's vehicle. He was wearing a seatbelt and suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash. He was taken by EMS to Magruder Hosptial in Port Clinton, Ohio.
The driver of the Jeep, Doris M. Celian, of Maumee, and passenger Sujata Hegde, of Toledo, were both wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Equinox, Meredith Fritz, 26, of Northwood, was wearing a seatbelt and was treated at the scene of the accident by EMS.
The driver of the Hyundai, Mary Hartman, and her front seat passenger, Eleanor Greear, were wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

In the newer vehicles, ones with belts and air bags, the HIC scores are usually shown to be below 700. In an accident the chest impact scores are measured in g's for frontal crashes, any score that is above 60g's is unacceptable. In a side impact crash the risk of chest injury is measured using criteria of 85 TTI (d). In frontal crash tests and side impact tests the reasonably safe vehicles have chest scores of less than 40g's and 65 TTI (d).
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) regularly rank test scores by giving the vehicle a "star rating." The more stars there are the safer the car is; 5-star safety ratings measure the crash worthiness and rollover safety of the vehicle. Five stars is the highest rating, one is the lowest.
Rollover accidents account for about 25% of all fatal and catastrophic injuries. It is important that you research the strength of the car's roof structure. In this test the higher the strength to weight ratio, the stronger the roof is and the less likely the chance the roof will collapse in a rollover accident.

Drunken driver gets 10 years in deadly hit-skip | Toledo Ohio car accident attorney

No one knew that Michael W. Griffith's last words would be to the 9-1-1 operator on February 4, 2010.
"I just got hit in the back end by a drunk," Mr. Griffith.
Seconds later, the drunken driver fled the scene, striking Griffith with a Toyota 4Runner and dragging him for 175 feet along the road.
The assistant prosecutor played the 9-1-1 recording in court and told the jurors that they pointed directly to Griffith's killer.
The jury returned five hours later with guilty verdicts against 20-year-old Ethan J. Kulasa for aggravated vehicular homicide, failing to stop after a crash and driving while intoxicated.
Judge Richard S. Sheward sentenced Kulasa to 10 years and six months in prison.
Griffith's family said the verdict is an answer to their prayers.
"I pray this will be a message to kids, to adults, not to drink and drive," said his widow, Linda Griffith.

ESC can help keep the driver from losing control of their car if they panic one swerve or even when they are driving on slippery roads. A government study shows that the ESC system has reduced single-vehicle accidents by 34% for cars and 59% for SUVs. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has estimated that ESC safety feature has reduced the risk of fatal single-vehicle accidents by 56% and fatal multiple-vehicle accidents by 32%. The U.S. Government has made ESC a mandatory safety feature to be put on all cars by the 2012 model year. Some different names of the ESC system are Electronic Stability Program (ESP), StabiliTrak, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control.

Wendy is frequently asked to speak at high school assemblies and in classrooms. Even though it is very painful for her to talk publicly about her daughter's death, she wants to help other parents and teenage drivers understand how deadly cell phone use is while driving. Wendy sees people using their cell phones while driving, and she wants to yell at them to put their phones down. She say's "It's almost an epidemic."

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, distracted driving is defined as any non-driving activity a person engages in that has the potential to distract him or her from the primary task of driving and increase the risk of crashing. Dan grabbed Wendy's hand, there were several emergency vehicles parked and emergency workers and police were walking around. Now Wendy was more curious than worried, since this accident had obviously not just happened. They parked their car and walked up to the scene. When they took a closer look, Wendy said, "Oh my God, Dan - that's Heather's car." Then they started running toward a state trooper shouting, ‘Hey, that's our daughter's car! That's Heather's car!" Wendy tried to push through him, but the state trooper had stopped her and said, "You don't want to go down there." Wendy was very determined. "Why? We have to help our daughter! That's her car!" Without any warning, the trooper just simply said, "Because she's dead."

On February 24, 2010, the coroner had told Dan and Wendy that at 10:27 p.m. Heather received a text message on her cell phone. At 10:30 p.m., as she was driving along Littlerock Road, she hit the guardrail. Everyone firmly believes that Heather lost control of her car because she was texting while driving. Then Wendy realized this meant Heather had been dead for three hours, trapped in her car, and no one had notified them. As the mother of a teenage driver, I believe that thought alone would break any parent's resolve.

The coroner said Heather was wearing her seat belt but the impact of the crash was so great that it pushed her two feet over into the passenger seat, and she died instantly. As he continued to explain the conditions that surrounded her daughter's death, and all Wendy could think about was how her daughter had been dead for three hours and she didn't know about it. How could she be dead, she had just bought her new car a month before for her 19th birthday, and she loved it. Heather was such a beautiful girl, both inside and out, with so much more life to live. How could something so meaningless like returning a text message kill her daughter.

Dan and Wendy did their best to raise Heather as a safe and aware driver. They even made her sign a contract outlining her responsibilities as a teenage driver, which included the promise to never drink and drive, and to always wear her seat belt. They were not aware that using a cell phone while driving was so dangerous; they had never heard of the words "distracted driving." Every teenager they knew had a cell phone, and it was certainly Heather's preferred form of communication with all of her friends.

Her Dad smiled as he was remembering how much she enjoyed their last family vacation in White Fish, Montana back in December of 2009.

"I have been calling, and it's going right to her voice mail." The worry in his wife's voice told Dan that sleep was no longer an option. "Why don't we go out and look for her. Surely her phone is out of battery or maybe she had a flat tire." They loved raising their children in Rochester, Washington, the city had a population of 12,000, so Rochester was small enough that you would know the routes that Heather commonly drove either to work, school or to a friend's house. As her parents drove around a curve that was about 3 miles from their house, they saw the reflection of emergency vehicle lights on a white fence. Wendy had also noticed a white van that had no lights on it. Later she realized that this was the coroner's van.

A man has been hospitalized early this morning after police say he drove his truck off the road on Parkside in central Toledo.

Rescue crews say the man was unconscious when they took him away in an ambulance. Early investigation indicates he drove off the road and broke through a stop sign, then crashed into a tree. Monroe man killed in crash on I-75 | Toledo, Ohio Car Accident Attorney

The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices are saddened to report that a Monroe man was killed Monday afternoon when the minivan he was a passenger in hydroplaned on the wet pavement from the heavy rains.
Michael Franklin, was transferred to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after the 4:15 p.m. accident, but did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to the report, Kirt Quatro, was driving a Ford Econoline van in the left lane of I-75N south of the I-280 exit, when he hydroplaned, lost control, crossed over the right lane, and struck the guard rail. The van flipped on the passenger side, and Mr. Franklin was partially ejected from the vehicle, which landed on him, the report states.

The Charles E. Boyk Law Offices, are saddened to report that an Ohio sheriff's deputy and his daughter were critically injured and his wife and son were killed when a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs lost control of a car and struck their vehicle head-on.
The crash happened late Saturday night in Grafton, southwest of Cleveland. It killed Tammy Tomasheski of Valley City and Thomas Tomasheski III. Lorain County Sheriff's Cpl. Thomas Tomasheski and his daughter Danielle, were taken to Cleveland hospitals.
According to the report, a car driven by a 35-year-old Oberlin man ran off the road and then swerved across the center lane. He also was critically hurt.
Troopers said they believe alcohol or drugs were a factor and officers sought a warrant to take his blood sample.

Lorain County Church mourns family killed in crash | Toledo, Ohio car accident attorney

A Lorain County family involved in a fatal head-on crash with a suspected drunk driver was the "backbone" of their church, said Darrell Myers, pastor of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church in Elyria.
The family of Tom Tomasheski, riding in their 2010 Honda Civic, was struck head-on on Route 83 in Grafton late Saturday night. Tammy Tomasheski, and Tommy Tomasheski, died. Danielle, and her father, Tom survived, and were listed in critical condition Monday after surgery.
The family was struck by a car driven by Gerald Wetherbee of Lorain County. He was listed in critical condition Monday. Wetherbee had recently served 5 years in prison for sex offenses, and has two previous DUI convictions on his record.
The Ohio Highway Patrol was investigating whether alcohol and drugs played a role in Saturday night's crash, in which Wetherbee went left of center on Route 83.
"Great sadness is probably an unstatement," the pastor said of the feeling of fellow church members upon learning that Tammy and Tommy III had been killed, and that Tom and Danielle had been critical injured.
Tom Tomasheski is a 14 year veteran deputy with the Lorain County Sheriff's Department. His father Thomas is a retired deputy of many years service.
The Tomasheskis were to have been in North Carolina for a wedding Saturday night, but Tom had to work and Tammy did not want to go there without him. When invited to travel with some close friends, she texted back, "thank you, but it wouldn't be the same without my Tom."
Instead the family drove up to Lake Erie on Saturday evening to watch the sunset. It was on the trip back to their home in Valley City that Wetherbee's car struck theirs, and caused the tragedy that has left many family and friends in Lorain County in mourning.
